In the back of the Portland Mattress Makers building in Biddeford, there’s a humming factory where we’ve been making mattresses by hand since 1938. When you peek inside you’ll see quilters, comfort layers, foams, and innersprings all coming together to create the magic of better sleep.
We are a family-owned and run company and so proud of our team – all committed to bringing you the highest quality in a mattress for your best night’s sleep.

Owner George and Doris Samaras

Our Team

George - Owner

Who George is as a person directly reflects on how his business runs and how our customers are treated every day. He is extremely honest, professional and trusts his employees to always do the right thing. He has a big heart and cares about the happiness and well-being of his employees. George spends his free time running, biking, and keeping active.

Doris - Owner

Doris works behind the scenes on our marketing and social media accounts. She is personally responsible for putting finishing touches in our showrooms, making them calm and inviting. She is graceful and treats everyone with kindness and respect. Doris enjoys spin classes, tennis, and walking their dog in the many wonderful areas in Greater Portland.

Catherine - Sales Manager

Catherine is bright, professional and has great leadership skills. Providing the best customer service is her focus and it can be seen with every interaction. Catherine has a passion for travel, experiencing different cultures and ways of life.

Jean - Portsmouth store manager

Jean is hard working, professional and super organized. She excels at providing excellent customer service. She is very artistic and loves creating whether it is through photography, writing, painting or drawing. Her photography skills can be seen in some of our website and social media images.

Sam - Portland store manager

Sam is super friendly and fun and manages one of our busiest locations, helping multiple customers at a time with ease. With a passion for music and sports, Sam is a family man who loves the outdoors. His funny and outgoing personality help make our staff parties so entertaining and enjoyable.

Cassie - Manchester store manager

Cassie is fantastic with customers and is happy to help wherever she can! She is bright, reliable and hardworking and a great part of our team. Halloween is her favorite time of the year.

Bonnie - Andover Store Manager

Meet Bonnie, our new Andover Showroom Manager. She is professional, fun and ready to help everyone in the Andover and surrounding areas fill their homes with mattresses they love! Her favorite band is Queen and she loves traveling, hanging with her beloved pets and watching football.

Ken - Biddeford store manager

Ken is a genuinely friendly guy and really enjoys helping customers! In his off time he likes spending his time having cookouts, hanging with his family and 4 dogs.

Sandy - New Hampshire Sales

Sandy splits her time between our two New Hampshire stores in Manchester and Portsmouth. Sandy loves movies, reading, painting, and gardening. Her favorite flowers are hollyhocks and lupine.

Tracy - Operations Manager

Tracy is essential to our team as she orders all of the raw materials to make mattresses and keeps track of the inventory which is a big job! Tracy loves her horses and spends almost all of her free time enjoying the outdoors.

Scott - Factory Manager

Scott is frequently the first one to work every day, and we are not sure if he knows what a snow day is. He ensures the factory is operating to its highest efficiency and all products are made on time and to our customers satisfaction. He spends his time outside of work with his kids or fishing and often both at the same time.

Marshall - Assistant Factory Manager

As the Assistant Factory Manager, Marshall is a key player in our factory - helping to keep the mattress production running smoothly. He enjoys spending time with his family at the lake, cooking, sports and just about anything outside.

John - Operations Coordinator

As the Operations Coordinator, John keeps us operating smoothly so that your mattress arrives on time and perfectly crafted. A big fan of music, John loves it all and especially Creedence Clearwater Revival. He also loves a good steak - with rib eye topping the list.

Chris - Factory & Delivery

Chris is a flexible team player working both in the factory or delivery as we need him. He comes from a family with 8 siblings so is used to a lot of activity! He loves watching Warrior Nun and loves eating just about any food there is!

Peter - Delivery Lead

As our Delivery Lead, Peter oversees and ensures the smooth and timely delivery of mattresses to our customers. He is known for his friendly demeanor and willingness to go the extra mile. Outside of work, Peter enjoys playing semi-pro football, along with other sports, and coaches as well. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Sam - Trucking Assistant

Sam helps us by making friendly mattress deliveries. He will be attending Southern Maine Community College in Fall 2023 to study Fire Science to become a firefighter. When Sam isn't helping us with deliveries, he plays the drums in a band.

Ruben

Ruben has run our complex quilting machine for years, in fact he is our longest employee. He is responsible for quilting almost all of the fabric we use on top of our mattresses. He is very meticulous and organized. He is an avid chess player – some say even a master chess player.

Belinda - Seamstress

Belinda is a very dependable, hard working person with a huge heart. Belinda personally sews all of the custom orders which are difficult and complex and she makes it “seam” easy! She loves spending time with her Grand baby Liam.

Denise - Seamstress

Denise comes from a BIG family - with five brothers and eight sisters! She is an expert in her trade - with great attention to detail. When not working she loves to watch game shows and enjoy some pizza!

Michelle - Administrative Assistant

Michelle works remotely to help us with extra projects. She is very friendly and thorough and is very quick to get things done. Although she is not physically here, with today’s technology it feels like she is. She is an avid horse lover and owns a couple of rescue horses.
